SVVEA News
THANK YOU!
Thank you for taking the time to be an SVVEA Leader! It’s an important job that only YOU can do for SVVEA!
Your job is to:
- REPRESENT our members in your work place and be their voice.
You listen to our members and take their interests and concerns to your local leaders. You speak for and vote on our members’ behalf. You make decisions based on the opinions and ideas of our members.
- REPRESENT our members in your work place with the employer; i.e., the supervisor, principal and anyone else designated as the employer.
You listen to our members and take their concerns to the employer. You try to solve work place problems affecting our members. You represent them I discussions with the employer abut work place issues, master Agreement and school board policy violations, and other employment related matters. You show your fellow members how they can do this, too.
- GUIDE our members as they learn about SVVEA and education issues.
You hold member meetings, inform our members abut what you learn at AR meetings, and distribute materials like THE BRIDGE. If a member needs assistance, you help or you find another member to help. If a member needs resources, you locate them or find a member who will. You make SVVEA visible in your work place through as SVVEA bulletin board, emails, and other means.
- RECRUIT new members or engage other members in recruiting, retaining, and reclaiming members.
You do your best to see that everyone belongs and no one leaves SVVEA without being invited back. You ask members to volunteer for our activities because SVVEA membership is more than joining and paying dues. You work to create a “culture of belonging” in your work place where joining and engaging in SVVEA is everyone’s standard and everyone’s priority.
- ORGANIZE members to move SVVEA’s agenda ahead.
You organize our members to influence decisions made by the employer, the Legislature, and the community; to elect Friends of Public Education to office; and to make gains for our members, student, and public education.
